It’s been awhile since we’ve done a Member Spotlight, but this one was worth the wait. Zach has been a Queen City Kettlebell staple for some time now, and we’re grateful to have him in our community. He is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet; a true leader who motivates those around him with his actions — even at 6am during class, which is no easy feat! Read on to get to know Zach a little bit better, and hear him explain in his own words why he chose to train here.
What made you decide /need to start a program? What made you decide on QCKB?
I decided I needed to get involved in a program after I had taken a few years off from having exercised on a consistent basis for longer than a few weeks. When I decided to dedicate more of my time to exercising and making overall healthier choices I began looking intovarious methods of kettlebell training. Kettlebells were a perfect method of strength training for me due to limited risk of injury if done properly. I played 5 years of college football at the Division I level which gave me plenty of bumps and bruises to carry along after my career was over. Having used kettlebells in the past, I began rotating through various kettlebell workouts that I would discover primarily through social media, but with no formal kettlebell training to plan my routine systematically I was in need of a program led by coaches with knowledge and experience. I found QCKB not long after moving to Cincinnati through a quick Google search. After attending the Free Workout Saturday class I knew I had found the kind of coaching and programing I was looking for to foster my love of kettlebell strength training. At this point I have been training at QCKB for the past year and a half and feel stronger, more mobile, and healthier overall than I thought was possible.
What results/goals have you achieved since being with QCKB?
I have achieved many goals since being with QCKB, but the one I hold highest is finding a level of strength and well being I didn’t think was possible after sustaining a severe lower back injury during my football career. To be more specific, performing the Turkish Get-Up with a 56kg (124lbs) bell is something I am very proud of. The Get-Up was one movement in particular that I learned from the ground up at QCKB, as it wasn’t a movement I implemented in my training prior due to the specifics of the movement and understanding that to safely perform the Get-Up (and many other movements), proper kettlebell coaching is essential.
What do you like (love) the best about our programs/coaches?
What I love most about the coaches and the programs at QCKB is that no matter what your level of fitness/strength — from those more advanced, to those just starting out — the coaches at QCKB know how to help anyone set and achieve their goals.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining Queen
To anyone on the fence about joining Queen City Kettlebell I would say do it. You are already curious enough to have discovered this post and learn a litle bit about QCKB that at this point I can nearly guarantee you will love it. From the training programs, coaches, and the wonderful people that attend QCKB you have found a place that will not only make you stronger physically, but a stronger person mentally. There is so much to be gained from coming here that you may as well give it a try.
Thanks for the kind words, Zach! The Queen City Kettlebell community is better with you you in it.
