FINALLY– her Kate-ness speaks. After some heavy prompting (and slight trickery) I convinced her to talk about herself. Read about how Kate got started at Queen City Kettlebell and some other words of wisdom she has for anyone nervous about trying us out!
What made you decide / needed to start a program? What made you decide on QCKB?
I was your typical gym-goer, deciding which muscle groups to focus on each day, and which day I would do my dreaded “cardio.” I’d always kept a pulse on the latest and greatest fitness trends, so when I came across a LivingSocial for QCKB, I jumped all over it. I went to my ten sessions, and then took a four-month break. Ultimately, I ended up back at QCKB because my normal gym routine was miserable compared to my trial time at QCKB, and I haven’t taken a break in the last two years. But, QCKB is different than the trendy, new studios and gyms out there – D.J. and his team are different. Their knowledge about the human body and ability to dissect and fix issues is unparalleled, and I have never been afraid of hurting myself there. They encourage a culture of strength, and I absolutely love that. I decided on QCKB because I finally felt like I was seeing progress and treating my body right. No session is ever the same, the programming makes sense, and the two most important things are safety and mobility.
What results / goals have you achieved since being with QCKB?
I am stronger, fitter, and more mobile. I feel better all the time, I am a 140 pound slim female and love the fact I can strict press a 20kg bell, deadlift over 1.5 times my bodyweight, knock out consistent sets of pull-ups, and bang out some burpees (if I have to.) QCKB makes me feel like a bad-ass, and I love that. (FYI – there are plenty of other females there who are much stronger than myself, so I know I have lots of room for improvement!) Also, I see progress every single week – talk about motivation!
What do you like (love) the best about our programs / coaches?
I have two favorite quotes from coaches at QCKB and guests who have given workshops at Queen City Kettlebell:
1. ‘As you get older, you need to learn how to fall and you need to always be able to walk. That’s what I’m hear to make sure you can do.’
2. ‘We don’t “workout,” “do cardio,” or “exercise muscle groups” – we practice.’ THAT is exactly what I love about QCKB.
What would you say to someone who is on the fence about joining Queen City Kettlebell?
The great thing about QCKB is that you have many options – you can train individually with a coach indefinitely, you can start with a coach until you are ready for group fitness, or you can jump right into group sessions once you learn the basics! Regardless of the path you take, you’ll find a second family at QCKB and will always be surrounded by motivation, and people who push you to be a better version of you.
It’s as simple as that.
