This member spotlight focuses on Heather S. She shares her story, how she got started with Queen City Kettlebell, and a little bit more. Here she is in her own words- and big smile!
“I have been a runner for the past 10 years, completing multiple marathons and half-marathons. My running training has always gone well, but I never could stick to the cross training I was supposed to be doing. I tried many different gyms, the YMCA, home exercise equipment, and about every DVD program out there, but I would always get bored after a week or two, and give up. That wasn’t such a big deal when I was younger, but as I have gotten older I had put on quite a bit of weight, and just running wasn’t getting the results I wanted- I wasn’t losing weight, and no matter what I tried, I couldn’t get any faster. This past spring, one of my co-workers, who is a coupon junkie, talked me into buying a Living Social deal for 10 Kettlebell classes at Queen City Kettlebell. I knew what they were, but really had no idea what I was in for. It was another month or so before we actually got into the gym for our intro class.
I walked into the no-frills building, and wasn’t really sure what to expect. The class started, and the trainer, DJ, was awesome! He made sure we all focused on proper form, and by the end of the hour, he knew all of our names, and told me I was ready to move up to the next class. Being super competitive, I liked knowing that I did well on my first try. Of course, I couldn’t walk for the next 2 days, but I did decide to come back. I started coming to Queen City Kettlebell at least twice a week, and have been very happy with the results. In the first 10 classes, I had lost 6 inches overall. The gym had a special “30 Day Challenge” for the month of September. Three classes a week, follow healthy eating plan, and see the results. In that 30 days, DJ had gotten me on an eating plan I could stick with, and he helped me to lose 7 ½ inches overall!! Of course, besides the trainers, the support that all of the clients give to each other is amazing- you never feel like you are being judged, like I felt so many times when I walked into other gyms.
So here I am, 3 ½ months after that first class, still sticking with this routine, stronger than I have ever been, and ready to start training for my next half-marathon. I can’t wait to see how these classes will help my overall performance, and how much faster I may finish the race. Oh, and I can’t wait until next Summer, when I will have to wear a bathing suit in public for the first time in forever as I compete in my very first triathlon!
Thanks, DJ, Calra, Keri, and all of the great clients at Queen City Kettlebell!”
